I came across some old medals I had earned while in the service. There was the usual, Good conduct Medal. However I found two medals from the firing range. One was Marksman, the other Expert. I looked in my military papers and it should have been expert. Only one other soldier did better shooting than me.

As I look back in my service time, I am guessing I would have been a good sniper. It isn’t the type of job I was really seeking, but I would have done well.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg met with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Wednesday, and the two said they would evaluate the latest strategies in Ukraine and discuss how U.S. and NATO allies can best help the country.

The ship will join other U.S. military assets sent to respond to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Monday — including Urban Search and Rescue teams, C-17 cargo jets, and helicopters to aid in search and rescue efforts.

I have a fun trip today. Going to lunch with a Vietnam veteran. He was a helicopter pilot, and a gunner. He is very private about his time their. So far I can get information about his being wounded with Chrapinell. He didn’t get the Purple Heart medal, because he didn’t feel like he deserved it. He said he lost too many friends, and he is alive.

I am working on him to accept the medal, because I can arrange that for him.

I encourage you to check on your friends and neighbors. I did that and found that three of my neighbors were veterans. One of them was a WWII veteran. Two have passed on, but they will be remembered forever.

I go to coffee twice a week, and I found out that two of my coffee buddies are veterans. There is another coffee group that meets at the same time. They have three veterans.

Reach out to find veterans. Be their friends, and help them if they need help.
