USS Aircraft Carrier Found in the South Pacific

I am going back to sharing some military stories. Many are very recent. Some are short and some are very informative.

USS Hornet Found in South Pacific

The wreckage of a U.S. aircraft carrier famous for launching a bombing raid on Japan four months after the Pearl Harbor attack was discovered in January.

B-52 bombers took off from the Hornet took off on April 18th, 1942 to attack the Japanese mainland. The attack was led by Lt Col James H. Doolittle.

Six months later the Hornet was put out of commission after being struck by multiple bombs and torpedoes.

While being towed by the USS Northampton the Hornet was attacked again by 11 Japanese bombers.

To prevent its capture, U.S. ships scuttled the Hornet with 16 torpedoes. When it finally sank It took the bodies of 140 sailors with it.

The estate of Paul Allen, Microsoft co-founder, funded the operation to find it.

I have another interview to share with you from my upcoming book:

In my book, Signs of Hope for the Military: In and Out of the Trenches of Life,

I have many interviews. Here is part of one of many:

I had the honor of accidentally connecting with a WWII veteran while shopping at my local grocery store. I saw him as I walked down the first aisle. I walked past him and then thought, Why didn’t I say hello and thank him for his service.

Then when I came into the milk aisle I saw him again. I walked over to him and told him thank you for his service. He said he was in Okinawa during the war. That was one of the bloodiest battles of the war.

We said our goodbyes, and went on. Then I wondered why I didn’t ask him if I could interview him. I was very angry with myself.

I got all my groceries and was heading towards a register. They have those dividers between each register so you can’t see the head of the line until you get there.

I came around the divider and there was the WWII veteran right ahead of me. That did it. I quickly asked him if we could meet and let me interview him. He said he would be glad to do it.

He gave me a card with his phone number on it and we parted our ways.

The next day I arranged to meet him at his home.

Here is what happened during the interview

I sat on the couch close to him because his hearing wasn’t good. I found out he was 98 years old. He look great for that age.

I began to ask him questions

DB

What did you do while in Okinawa?

WWII VET

I was a Captain, and in charge of a company of shipping crews. We unloaded the ships as they came into the harbor.

DB

You actually unloaded the supplies, ammo, and equipment for those that were on the front not far from you? That was a pretty vital mission.

WWII VET

Yes it was, and we were being bombed by the Japanese constantly.

DB

What was your worst moment?

WWII Vet

I was on one of the ships and I fell overboard right between a barge and the ship. They were very close together. I had to struggle and swim to the end of the ship to get out.

I also had to keep our men safe from all the bombing.

There is much more to this interview, but you will have to buy the book to find out what else he said. (This is called a hook!)

PERMANENT GUTTERS

As you probably already know – maintaining gutters is the most important thing you can do to prevent water damage to your home and thus preventing mold growing into a serious problem! But cleaning them is not only a dirty but also dangerous and tedious task.

Fortunately, Servicemembers & Veterans can claim LeafFilter’s spring offer for their patented & award-winning permanent solution to prevent clogged gutters in addition to their 10% year-round military discount! This means you get 10% + 10% + $100 Off – in addition, they’ll throw in a transferable lifetime warranty for your peace of mind!

MORTGAGE RELIEF

One of the many perks of being a veteran is access to benefits that are otherwise unavailable to civilians. Unknown to many active duty and former military members are some amazing government refinance programs available to them through their VA/GI Bill benefits which can help them save money on their existing house payments.

Currently, Congress’ mortgage relief program can lower veteran homeowner payments by as much as $3,252 per year!

The bad news? This program is very temporary, as the banks want it eliminated as soon as possible. The good news is that once you match with a lender you’re in for good.

For years insurance rates have only been going up and up, BUT starting this year 2020 rates can be cut down. Most military personnel are shocked to find out how much they can save by simply switching to a new 2020 policy!

Most insurance companies and brokers will not tell you this because they are getting paid on commission and want you to keep paying high rates but if you live in a qualified zip code and had no DUI in the last 2 years you might be eligible for a huge discount on your current rate! In our self-test we were able to lower our rate from almost $120 to only $40 with the same coverage!

That was fun to share with you the many ways to save money. We all sure can use it.

So how are you doing my friend? There are so many terrible things happening around us right now. I live close to Portland, Oregon, and I am sick of what is happening. The mayor is an idiot, and is fighting President Trump for sending Federal Agents. He is even suing him. That is absolutely crazy. There is rioting, burning of businesses, people shot, and many beatings. It has to stop and I am embarrassed to say this is happening in my home state.

Are you under a lot of stress because of what is happening? Is it hard to go through your day?

You are not alone. There are 8.651 fellow veterans here, and they have your six. Just make a comment in the comment section below and we will get you help.

If you feel overwhelmed there is a toll free number to call. They are trained counselors who will be glad to help you.

I just got home from having the oil changed on my car. Different experience. I got there and there were people everywhere. They all had masks, so that was good. I turned my keys over to the service guy and sat down.

I tried to fill my time with my phone, but even that got boring. I went for a walk and found a machine to buy some food. That was a bust because I didn’t see that the chips were dipped in vinegar. It was too strong. Went directly to the dessert which was a Snickers bar. That calmed me down.

I know…not a good ! However, one can’t be choosy at a time like this. They did the oil change and I drove home. Pretty boring right?

That is what I see a lot on Facebook. Someone telling me what they had for lunch. REALLY?? Do I need to know what they had for lunch?

Anyway, I was so glad to have a morning where I wasn’t watching TV and seeing the rioting, statues being tore down, and shootings going on in our country.

It doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I am near Portland, Oregon, and all Hell has broken out there. WHY? Because the weak leaders are doing nothing. They even are getting mad because President Trump sent Federal Agents in to help stop the mess. The Mayor is suing Trump for sending them saying they are making it worse.

You and I both know that President Trump isn’t worried about that. He is worried about the police getting injured, and federal buildings being destroyed.

Should we send Federal Agents into other places like Chicago, NYC, Atlanta?

Let me know what you are thinking in the comments section below. None of your comments will be seen by the public unless you allow me to do that.

My next post will be full of places for you to go to get military discounts. They will be for anything you can think of. Do not miss it.
